Silver Creek Central Community Education offering variety of courses to the public

Silver Creek Central School District is offering a variety of courses open to the public via its Community Education division beginning in January 2022. Please note that all classes are held on campus, 1 Dickinson Street, and pre-registration is necessary for all classes.

Classes will not meet when school is not in session or due to inclement weather. If you have any questions, please contact your instructor regarding cancellations. The local radio/television stations will also provide weather related closings.

SIT & FIT

Three sessions of Sit & Fit are planned with instructor Betty Bates. All ages can benefit from this light and easy class, which will include simple chair exercises and stretching to some fun music. Includes the use of stretch bands and light weights if you choose to bring this equipment to class with you. Some meditation will conclude the class. Come and have fun while you stay fit! Bring a mat for meditation time if you prefer to use the floor

  • Session 1 will consist of 12 classes held Tuesdays & Thursdays from January 4 – February 17 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the high school library. Registration fee:  $30.
  • Session 2 will consist of 12 classes held Tuesdays & Thursdays from March 1 – April 7 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the high school library. Registration fee: $30.
  • Session 3 will consist of 14 classes held Tuesdays & Thursdays from April 19 – June 2 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the high school library. Registration fee: $35.

GENTLE MORNING STRETCH

Three sessions of Gentle Morning Stretch are planned with instructor Betty Bates.   • Session 1 will run for 7 classes on Saturdays from January 8 – February 19 from 10 to 11 a.m. in Crowe Commons at the middle school. Registration fee: $20.
  • Session 2 will run for 6 classes on Saturdays from March 5 – April 9 from 10 to 11 a.m. in Crowe Commons at the middle school. Registration fee: $15.
  • Session 3 will run for 7 classes on Saturdays from April 23 – June 4 from 10 to 11 a.m. in Crowe Commons at the middle school. Registration fee: $20.

AQUACIZE

Two sessions of Aquacize are planned with instructor Jean Mahaney. Looking for an easy-on-the-joints workout?  Try Aquacize and work out in the pool. Get into shape and enjoy the benefits of this fabulous joint-friendly exercise. The class is fast-paced and cardio-intense, but can be modified to fit all participants. The water temperature will NOT be colder than normal this year.

  • Session 1 will run for 24 classes on Tuesdays & Thursdays from January 4 – April 7 from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. in the pool. Registration fee: $50.
  • Session 2 will run for 16 classes on Tuesdays & Thursdays from April 19 – June 9 from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. in the pool. Registration fee: $35.

RUBBER STAMP CARD MAKING

One session of Rubber Stamp Card Marking is planned with instructor Jody Enser. Rubber stamping will be used to make handcrafted greeting cards across 4 different classes. You will make 2 each of four different cards.  Each class will be different. Classes are scheduled Tuesdays on Feb. 1, March 1, April 5, and May 3 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in Room 154A  at the high school. Registration fee: $20. Supply fee: $5 to be paid to instructor during class time.

5-HOUR PRE-LICENSING CLASSES
 

Two 5-Hour Pre-Licensing Classes with instructor Angela Bittinger are scheduled. A minimum of 8 students is required in order for class to be held. Completion of this New York State Department of Motor Vehicle 5-hour pre-licensing course allows student to earn the MV278 certificate which is needed to sign up for a road test at the DMV. Bring food, drink, and your LEARNER’S PERMIT (or proof of) to class.

  • Classes will be held Saturday, March 19, and Saturday, June 11, from 8:00 am – 1:00 p.m. in Room  164. Registration fee: $30.

LETS DANCE

One session of Let’s Dance, consisting of 9 classes, are planned with instructors Heidi Brown and Sondra Warnick Holland. Learn the art of dance! Ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, ballroom, and belly dance (just to name a few) will be the focus of the class. Each lesson will end with yoga and meditation. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle. No pressure, just fun.

  • Classes are scheduled Thursdays from February 3 – April 7 (no class Feb.24) from 6 to 7 p.m. in the elementary chorus room (415). Registration fee: $40.

MINDFUL MEDITATION

One session of Mindful Meditation is planned with instructor Sondra Warnick Holland, state-certified vocal teacher. Read about Sondra in the January issue of ‘Forever Young’ magazine.

  • Nine classes will be held Thursdays from February 3 – April 7  (no class Feb. 24) from 7 to 8 p.m. in the elementary chorus room (415). Registration fee: $40.

Please note: If one wishes, there is an Oriental presentation unifying dance, the arts, gentle yoga, and meditation.  This class will occur after the Dance session. Rise beyond – glide upwards. Have you always wished to rise above your inspirational dreams?  Sondra, a meditation devotee, has spent her life studying in the Orient. Her dream is to unite oriental teachings with western practices.  Included are the teachings of Ahimsa, non-violence; and Ashtange, the eight-fold path. Bring yoga mat, a rug, or towel and loose clothing. Those age 13  and older are welcome.
 
There is no pre-registration required for the ongoing WALKING THE HALLS program.  There will be a sign-up sheet in the high school lobby.  Please carry photo ID when walking. Walking will be held Mondays to Thursdays from 3:30 to 8 p.m. beginning Monday, January 10, 2022.

You WILL NOT receive a confirmation call. You WILL be called if the course is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment.
 

Send in your money promptly, with this registration form and your course fees. (Include separate checks for each person.)
 
NOTE: You are not permanently registered until we receive your course fee. Enroll early. Money must be received before the class begins. Checks or money orders can be made out to: Silver Creek CS Community Ed. Age 65 years and older qualify for a 15% discount.
